Total testosterone (Total Testosterone, Serum)
The test determines the concentration of total testosterone — the primary male sex hormone, also present in women. Testosterone affects sexual development, libido, muscle mass, bone density, and overall well-being. Used to diagnose hormonal disorders in men and women. Recommended for reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, infertility, menstrual irregularities, hirsutism.
What the test evaluates:
- Total testosterone level in blood serum
- Hormonal status and sex gland function
Biomaterial: Venous blood (serum)
- Draw blood fasting (8-12 hours after last meal)
- Exclude intense physical activity and stress 24 hours before
- Recommended morning draw (8:00-11:00)
Medications:
- Hormonal drugs and anabolic steroids may affect results
- Medication discontinuation by physician agreement
Recommended for:
- Reduced sexual function in men
- Hyperandrogenism signs in women
- Hormonal disorders
- Infertility
Elevated testosterone in women: may indicate polycystic ovary syndrome, ovarian or adrenal tumors
