Total triiodothyronine (Total T3) (Total Triiodothyronine, Total T3, Serum)
The test determines the concentration of total triiodothyronine (T3), including both free and protein-bound hormone fractions. Total T3 participates in metabolism regulation, thermoregulation, cardiovascular and nervous system function. Used to diagnose hyperthyroidism, thyrotoxicosis, and assess thyroid hormonal function. Recommended for weight changes, palpitations, excessive sweating, nervousness.
What the test evaluates:
- Total triiodothyronine level in blood serum
- Thyroid gland hormonal activity considering hormone-protein binding
Biomaterial: Venous blood (serum)
- Draw blood fasting
- Exclude intense physical activity and stress 24 hours before
Medications:
- If possible, do not take thyroid hormones 24-48 hours before (consult physician)
- Estrogens, oral contraceptives, iodine preparations may affect results
- Inform physician of all medications taken

Elevated total T3: may indicate hyperthyroidism or thyrotoxicosis
