Transferrin
The test determines the transferrin level — a blood protein transporting iron to body tissues. Used to diagnose iron disorders, anemia, chronic diseases, and assess protein metabolism.
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting 8-12 hours;
- exclude alcohol 24 hours before;
- avoid stress and physical activity 30 minutes before.
- Inform physician of iron preparation or protein supplement intake.
- Suspected iron deficiency or excess;
- anemia of unclear origin;
- chronic liver diseases;
- protein metabolism disorders;
- iron preparation therapy monitoring.
Normal level — iron balance maintained.
Elevated level — may indicate iron deficiency.
Reduced level — may occur with chronic inflammations, liver diseases, or iron excess.
Note: Physician interprets results.
