Trichinellosis (Trichinella spiralis) IgG antibodies

Detects IgG antibodies to Trichinella spiralis — parasite primarily acquired by consuming meat (pork/game) containing larvae. Used for trichinellosis diagnosis — disease causing muscle pain, edema, temperature, and allergic reactions.

Infection routes:

  • consuming insufficiently cooked meat (pork, boar, etc.); 
  • tasting raw minced meat.

Recommended for:

  • symptoms after consuming insufficiently cooked meat;
  • hunters and game dish enthusiasts;
  • suspected infection in family/group.

Biomaterial: Venous blood

  • Draw blood fasting (8-12 hours without food)
  • Water is permitted
  • Exclude fatty food and alcohol 24 hours before
  • No smoking 30 minutes before

Medications: If taking antiparasitic drugs, hormonal drugs, or immunosuppressants — inform physician; dose adjustment is usually not required unless directed by physician

  • Muscle pain, weakness, aching;
  • face/eyelid edema;
  • prolonged temperature;
  • elevated eosinophils; rash, itching, urticaria;
  • after consuming poorly cooked meat.

Note: IgG may not appear immediately — early results may be negative.

Negative IgG — antibodies not detected.

Positive IgG — organism contacted Trichinella (possible current infection).

At positive result: infectious disease specialist/parasitologist consultation for diagnosis confirmation. Self-treatment with antiparasitic drugs not recommended.
