Troponin I (Troponin I, Serum)
The test is aimed at determination of troponin I level — a highly specific marker of myocardial damage. Used for early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction. Applied to assess the degree of cardiac muscle damage. Prescribed for chest pain and suspected acute coronary syndrome.
What the test evaluates:
- Concentration of troponin I in blood serum
- Presence and severity of cardiac muscle damage
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting
- Preferably draw blood before start of intensive therapy
Medications:
Medication intake generally does not affect troponin I level
Inform physician of all cardiovascular medications taken
Recommended for:
- Suspected myocardial infarction
- Chest pain, shortness of breath, rhythm disturbances
- Emergency conditions
- Deteriorating patient condition
Important: Results evaluated in combination with ECG, clinical data, and other lab parameters.
Negative result: troponin I level within normal range; low probability of acute myocardial damage
Positive result: elevated troponin I level; indicates cardiac muscle damage, possible acute infarction
Important: Physician consultation required for positive or equivocal results.
