Urine Creatinine, Single Sample
Purpose of the test:
- Determining creatinine concentration in a single urine sample allows assessment of kidney function and filtration efficiency.
- Particularly recommended when renal failure, chronic kidney disease are suspected, or for monitoring therapy.
What the test assesses:
- Creatinine concentration — kidney filtration function indicator.
Biomaterial: Single morning urine sample
- Collect morning urine in a clean container.
- Avoid intense physical exertion and alcohol for 24 hours before the test.
Medications: if possible, avoid taking drugs affecting the kidneys (diuretics, antibacterial drugs) 24-48 hours before the test.
- Normal: creatinine concentration corresponds to the patient's age and body weight.
- Elevated level: may indicate dehydration or high muscle mass.
- Decreased level: possible decreased kidney function, renal parenchymal disease, or low muscle mass.
- Important: for accurate assessment, it is recommended to combine with a blood creatinine test and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) calculation.
