Urine Glucose (Sugar)
The test allows determining the glucose level in urine — an indicator of carbohydrate metabolism. Used for detecting carbohydrate metabolism disorders, including diabetes mellitus, and for monitoring treatment efficacy in diabetic patients.
Mechanism of abnormalities: glucose appearance in urine (glucosuria) occurs when blood sugar level rises above the renal filter threshold, with kidney function disorders, or in acute stress conditions.
Recommended for:
- people with suspected diabetes mellitus
- for monitoring diabetes therapy
- with symptoms of polydipsia, polyuria, or unintentional weight loss
- for monitoring carbohydrate metabolism
Biomaterial: 24-hour or single urine
- Collect urine in a clean container
- Exclude high-sugar foods for 2-3 days
- Avoid intense physical exertion and stress
Medications: if taking medications affecting sugar level (insulin, glucose-lowering medications) — inform the doctor
- Suspected diabetes mellitus
- Monitoring treatment in diabetic patients
- Symptoms of increased thirst, frequent urination, weakness
- Assessing metabolic disorder risk
Normal — glucose absent in urine
Positive result — glucose detected, requiring additional examination (diabetes mellitus, stress condition, kidney pathology)
Which doctor to consult:
For test abnormalities, consultation with an endocrinologist or general practitioner is recommended. The doctor evaluates laboratory results, correlates them with the clinical picture, and if needed prescribes treatment or additional examinations.
Self-treatment is not recommended!
