Urine Phosphorus, 24-Hour
The test allows determining the inorganic phosphorus level in urine — an important element for bone tissue, energy metabolism, and muscle function. Used for assessing mineral metabolism, kidney function, and detecting phosphorus metabolism disorders.
Mechanism of abnormalities: elevated urinary phosphorus may indicate increased dietary intake, kidney filtration disorder, or hormonal disorders. Decrease — phosphorus deficiency, absorption disorder, or kidney function disorder.
Recommended for:
- people with chronic kidney diseases
- with calcium-phosphorus metabolism disorders
- for monitoring osteoporosis or bone disease therapy
- with kidney or urinary tract stones
Biomaterial: 24-hour urine
- Collect urine over 24 hours in a clean container
- Exclude high-phosphorus foods (dairy products, nuts, legumes) for 2-3 days
- Avoid intense physical exertion and stress
Medications: if taking phosphorus-affecting medications or diuretics — inform the doctor
- Suspected mineral metabolism disorder
- Kidney diseases (stones, nephropathy)
- Monitoring diet and therapy in osteoporosis or hypo/hyperphosphatemia
- Muscle cramps, bone pain, or frequent fractures
Normal — 24-hour urine phosphorus level within reference values
Abnormality — requires physician assessment to determine the cause and choose further tactics
