Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) (Vitamin C, Ascorbic Acid, Serum)
The test determines the level of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in blood serum - a key antioxidant participating in immune protection, collagen synthesis, and tissue healing. Vitamin C is necessary for normal function of blood vessels, skin, bones, and gums. The study detects vitamin C deficiency, which can develop with unbalanced diet, chronic infections, smoking, and stress.
Biomaterial: Venous blood
- Draw blood fasting
- Exclude vitamin C intake and products with high vitamin C content 24 hours before
Medications:
If possible, discontinue preparations and complexes containing vitamin C 24-48 hours before
If discontinuation is not possible - indicate medications taken
- Frequent colds
- Gum bleeding
- Slow wound healing
- Increased fatigue
- Reduced immunity
Recommended for testing with:
- General practitioner - for vitamin and immune status assessment;
- Immunologist - with frequent infections;
- Cardiologist - with vascular diseases;
- Dentist - with gum diseases
Low vitamin C - ascorbic acid deficiency - reduced antioxidant protection and immunity - tissue healing problems
Normal level - sufficient vitamin C supply
Elevated level - more often associated with vitamin preparation intake
