Gallbladder Ultrasound
Gallbladder ultrasound is a safe and painless examination that evaluates the shape, size, walls, and contents of the gallbladder, as well as bile duct function.
The examination helps detect:
- inflammatory conditions (cholecystitis),
- the presence of stones or sludge,
- structural abnormalities,
- gallbladder emptying disorders.
The procedure is performed through the anterior abdominal wall using an ultrasound probe, takes 10–15 minutes, and requires no anesthesia or injections.

Recommendations:
- do not eat 6–8 hours before the examination (fasting),
- a small amount of water is permitted,
- 1–2 days before the ultrasound, limit gas-producing foods: legumes, carbonated beverages, cabbage, fresh baked goods, sweets.
If you have previous ultrasound results or lab tests, it is recommended to bring them along for comparison.
Gallbladder ultrasound is recommended for:
- pain in the right upper abdomen, especially after eating
- nausea or vomiting
- heaviness or discomfort in the abdomen
- abnormal liver or bilirubin test results
- monitoring of previously detected changes
