Bile Examination
Bile laboratory examination is an analysis of bile obtained during duodenal intubation. The material is collected in stages: portion A (duodenal bile), portion B (bile from the gallbladder), and portion C (bile from the hepatic bile ducts). Each portion is examined separately.
Bile analysis allows diagnosis of chronic cholecystitis, early-stage gallstone disease, parasitic invasions (giardia, opisthorchia), bacterial infections of the biliary tract, and disorders of the physicochemical composition of bile leading to bile stasis. Results are ready within 1–3 working days.
● The examination is performed on material obtained during duodenal intubation — preparation is the same
● Strictly fasting: no food or water from 8:00 PM the evening before
● 3 days before: exclude fatty foods, alcohol, and choleretic products (eggs, butter in large amounts)
● 5 days before: discontinue antiparasitic, choleretic medications, and antibiotics — by physician agreement
● Inform the physician about medications being taken — some affect bile composition
● The procedure is performed strictly on an empty stomach — last meal no later than 8:00 PM the evening before
● 3 days before: exclude fatty foods, alcohol, legumes, and gas-producing foods
● 5 days before: discontinue choleretic medications, antispasmodics, and antibiotics — by physician agreement
