Audiogram (Hearing Examination)
An audiogram is a diagnostic examination that evaluates a person's hearing and detects auditory function disorders. The procedure is performed using modern equipment that measures the threshold of sound perception at different frequencies and intensities, helping the physician determine the hearing level in each ear.
What an audiogram shows:
• Degree of hearing loss (deafness or hearing impairment)
• Type of hearing disorder (conductive, sensorineural, or mixed)
• Frequency characteristics of hearing
• Need for further treatment or hearing aid use

Preparation:
• Avoid loud noises 24 hours before the examination.
• Inform the physician of any ear discharge or infection.
• Avoid using ear drops before the examination, if possible.
How the procedure is performed:
• The patient puts on headphones and listens to sounds of various frequencies and volumes.
• The patient signals when a sound is heard using a button or gesture.
• The physician records the hearing threshold at each frequency for each ear.
• The procedure usually takes 15–20 minutes and is completely painless.
An audiogram is recommended for:
• Hearing loss, ringing, or noise in the ears.
• Ear injuries or infections.
• Chronic middle or inner ear conditions.
• Hearing monitoring when using a hearing aid or treating ear conditions.
• Preventive examinations for occupational noise exposure or other risks.
