Foreign body removal is a medical procedure performed by an otorhinolaryngologist to safely remove a foreign object from the ear, nose, or throat.
How the Procedure Is Performed
- the doctor examines the affected area
- determines the location, size, and characteristics of the foreign body
- if necessary, an otoscope, endoscope, or other diagnostic instruments are used
- the foreign body is removed using special medical instruments or by aspiration
If the foreign body is located in a difficult-to-reach area or is difficult to remove, the procedure may take more time.

Preparation
No special preparation is usually required.
Important: do not attempt to remove the foreign body yourself using sharp objects or cotton swabs.
