Extended Colposcopy
Extended colposcopy is a diagnostic gynecological procedure that allows detailed examination of the cervix, vagina, and external part of the cervical canal using a special optical instrument — a colposcope. Unlike standard colposcopy, the extended examination uses special diagnostic solutions that help detect even minimal tissue changes.
What extended colposcopy can detect:
- cervical erosion and ectopy
- inflammatory changes
- dysplasia (precancerous cell changes)
- viral lesions including HPV manifestations
- suspicious areas requiring further examination
How the procedure is performed
During the examination, the physician places a gynecological speculum and examines the cervix through the colposcope — a device with a magnification and illumination system. Special solutions (such as acetic acid and Lugol's solution) are applied to the mucosa for extended diagnosis, helping identify pathological tissue changes. The procedure usually takes 10–15 minutes.
Location: Almaty, Aksai-5 district, 12A
Preparation
- perform the examination outside the menstrual period
- avoid sexual intercourse 1–2 days before the procedure
- do not use vaginal medications, suppositories, or douching
- undergo preliminary gynecological examination
Colposcopy is recommended for:
- changes identified in PAP test (cytology) results
- suspected cervical conditions
- presence of erosion or other mucosal changes
- monitoring after cervical condition treatment
