IUD removal is a gynecological procedure for extracting an intrauterine contraceptive device from the uterine cavity. The procedure is performed by a gynecologist in a medical office and usually takes a few minutes.

How the procedure is performed
IUD removal is performed during a gynecological examination. The physician carefully extracts the IUD using a special instrument via the control threads located in the cervix. In most cases the procedure is quick and virtually painless.

After removal
Mild pulling pain or light spotting may occur after the procedure, usually resolving quickly. Fertility is restored rapidly, so if pregnancy is not planned, discussing further contraception with the physician is recommended.
