Bladder Ultrasound with Residual Volume Measurement
Bladder ultrasound with residual volume measurement is a safe and informative examination that allows evaluation of bladder function and measurement of the amount of urine remaining after urination.
During the examination, the doctor evaluates:
- the size and shape of the bladder,
- the thickness of its walls,
- the presence of stones, cysts, or masses,
- the residual urine volume after urination (an important indicator in cases of urination disorders).
The examination helps detect bladder and urinary tract conditions such as urinary retention, detrusor weakness, obstruction, or voiding abnormalities, as well as monitor treatment progress.

Preparation
- Arrive with a full bladder — drink 1–2 glasses of water 30–60 minutes before and avoid urinating.
- Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the abdominal area.
- Bring previous ultrasound results if available.
Indications:

- sensation of incomplete bladder emptying
- lower abdominal or lower back pain
- suspected urinary tract obstruction
- monitoring of bladder treatment
