Doppler Ultrasound of Arteries and Veins of Both Lower Limbs
Doppler ultrasound of the arteries and veins of both lower limbs is a comprehensive ultrasound examination that evaluates both the arterial and venous circulation in both legs during a single visit. The examination provides a complete assessment of the vascular system of the lower limbs, including the arteries that deliver oxygen-rich blood to the tissues and the veins that return blood to the heart.
This comprehensive vascular examination is recommended for patients with mixed symptoms, such as leg swelling, varicose veins, and signs of peripheral arterial disease. It is also indicated for individuals with diabetes mellitus who are at risk of diabetic angiopathy, patients with systemic vascular disorders, and adults over the age of 50 as part of a vascular health screening.
The examination helps detect atherosclerosis, arterial stenosis, impaired blood flow, varicose veins, venous insufficiency, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), allowing physicians to establish an accurate diagnosis and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
The procedure is safe, non-invasive, requires no special preparation, and typically takes 50–60 minutes. Assessing both the arteries and veins during a single appointment provides a comprehensive evaluation while saving time compared with separate examinations.
