Kidney and Adrenal Gland Ultrasound for Children
Kidney and adrenal gland ultrasound is a safe and informative examination that assesses the condition, size, shape, and tissue structure of the kidneys and adrenal glands, and detects possible changes.
During the examination, the physician evaluates:
- size and shape of the kidneys and adrenal glands
- tissue structure and uniformity
- presence of stones, cysts, tumor-like or inflammatory changes
- blood flow and functional features (when necessary)
The examination helps diagnose kidney, adrenal gland, and urinary system conditions at an early stage, monitor treatment, and detect congenital or acquired pathologies. The procedure is performed through the anterior and lateral abdominal walls using an ultrasound probe. It is painless, safe, and takes 15–20 minutes.

Preparation
- Children over 10 years: no food for 6–8 hours before the examination (fasting); small amounts of water are permitted
- Children under 10 years: no food for 3–4 hours; a light snack a few hours before the procedure is permitted (as advised by the physician)
Additionally, limit gas-producing foods 1–2 days before the examination (legumes, cabbage, carbonated beverages, fresh baked goods). If prone to bloating, the physician may recommend medications to reduce gas.
Bring previous ultrasound results if available
