Pelvic Ultrasound — Follow-up
Follow-up pelvic ultrasound is performed to monitor changes in the reproductive system organs after treatment, surgical procedures, or when observing previously identified conditions.
During the examination, the physician assesses the uterus, endometrium, ovaries, fallopian tubes (when visible), and surrounding tissues, checks for cysts, fibroids, inflammatory changes, or other pathologies, and compares findings with previous results.
The procedure may be performed transabdominally or transvaginally depending on indications and the method used previously. It is painless, safe, and takes 10–15 minutes.

Preparation is the same as for the initial ultrasound and depends on the method used:
Transabdominal ultrasound:
- you must arrive with a full bladder — drink 1–2 glasses of water 30–60 minutes before the procedure and avoid urinating.
Transvaginal ultrasound:
- no special preparation is required;
- the bladder should be empty.
If you have the results of previous examinations, it is strongly recommended to bring them along so that the doctor can compare the changes over time.
Follow-up ultrasound is recommended for:
- monitoring of previously identified cysts, fibroids, or other formations
- evaluating treatment effectiveness
- pregnancy planning after treatment of gynecological conditions
- monitoring endometrial changes over time
- recurring complaints of pain or menstrual irregularities
