Intramuscular injection (IM injection) is the administration of a medication into muscle tissue for gradual and even absorption into the bloodstream. One of the most common methods for administering antibiotics, vitamin complexes, anti-inflammatory, and hormonal medications.
Muscle tissue is well supplied with blood vessels, so the drug absorbs faster than with subcutaneous injection but slower than with intravenous — this provides a longer and more stable therapeutic effect.

Preparation:
- the intended injection area must be clean, undamaged, and free of skin inflammation
- inform about blood-thinning medications (anticoagulants)
- try to relax the muscle during the procedure — this reduces discomfort
- for course treatment — alternate right and left sides
- light massage of the injection site after the injection is recommended for better absorption
