Doppler Ultrasound of Arteries and Veins of Both Upper Limbs
Doppler ultrasound of the arteries and veins of both upper limbs is a comprehensive ultrasound examination of the entire vascular system in both arms, performed during a single visit. It evaluates both the arterial circulation (from the subclavian arteries to the arteries of the fingers) and the venous circulation, including the superficial and deep veins of both upper limbs.
The examination is recommended for patients with mixed or unexplained symptoms, connective tissue disorders such as systemic sclerosis (scleroderma), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), or vasculitis, as well as those with thoracic outlet syndrome. It is also appropriate as a vascular screening examination for patients with diabetes mellitus or cardiovascular disease.
The examination helps detect arterial stenosis, impaired blood flow, atherosclerosis, venous thrombosis, venous insufficiency, and other vascular abnormalities, providing a comprehensive assessment of the blood vessels in both upper limbs
The procedure is safe, painless, requires no special preparation, and typically takes 50–60 minutes, eliminating the need for separate arterial and venous examinations or additional clinic visits.
