Doppler Ultrasound of Arteries of One Upper Limb
Doppler ultrasound of the arteries of one upper limb is a targeted ultrasound examination of the arterial circulation in a single arm, extending from the subclavian artery to the arteries of the hand and fingers. The examination evaluates arterial patency, blood flow velocity and pattern, and the condition of the arterial walls.
It is recommended for patients with unilateral symptoms, such as numbness, coldness, or changes in skin colour affecting one arm, as well as unequal pulses or differences in blood pressure between the arms.
The examination is also performed as a follow-up after vascular bypass surgery, stent placement, or thrombectomyinvolving one upper limb. It helps determine the location and severity of arterial disease, detect arterial narrowing or occlusion, and guide the most appropriate surgical or conservative treatment.
The procedure is safe, painless, requires no special preparation, and typically takes 20–25 minutes.

Preparation:
- Avoid intense physical activity 2 hours before the examination
- Do not smoke 2 hours before the procedure
- Do not take vasoconstrictive medications on the day of examination without physician approval
- Wear loose clothing with sleeves that can be easily rolled above the elbow
- Remove jewelry from wrists and forearms before the examination
- No special diet or fasting required
