Chest X-ray (Single View)
Chest X-ray (single view) is a fast and reliable imaging examination used to evaluate the lungs, airways, heart, and mediastinum. It is widely used to diagnose diseases of the chest and respiratory system and may be performed for both diagnostic and screening purposes.
A chest X-ray can help detect pneumonia, tuberculosis (TB), lung tumors, and other abnormalities affecting the organs within the chest.
What does a chest X-ray show?
A chest X-ray can help identify:
- Inflammatory changes in the lungs
- Pneumonia
- Tuberculosis
- Lung tumors and other masses
- Abnormalities of the pulmonary markings
- Pleural abnormalities, including pleural effusion and pleural thickening
- Enlargement of the heart (cardiomegaly)

No special preparation is required.
Before the examination, you should:
- Remove jewellery and other metal objects from the chest area
- Wear clothing without metal fasteners or accessories whenever possible
- Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant
The examination is painless, performed on an outpatient basis, and typically takes 5–10 minutes.
